Robert Allen Butz served as a - 1st Lt. - Grade 02 - Marine Corps - Reserve

He was 25 years old at the time of his death.

Robert was born August 15, 1939 in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Robert served with A Company, 3rd Tank Battalion, 3rd Marine Division.

Robert died on June 26, 1965 in Quang Nam Province,
Republic of South Vietnam.

Robert's death was a result of drowning when he tried to save his tank crew.
Lt. Butz was leading a armored tank column across the Song Toy Loan River in the area of the Da Nang Air Base, when his tank dropped into a large hidden hole in the river.  Robert was the Executive Officer of A Company serving under
Capt. J.B. Donovan.

Robert is interred in the Easton Cemetery, Easton, Pennsylvania.

Robert's religion was Protestant. He was married at the time of his death.

Robert's name is listed on Panel 2E --- Line 20
of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Robert Allen Butz was a leader. He was a teacher of our young, a teacher in more ways than one. He was an example to follow. Robert was a teacher of children who took leave to serve his Country. He served with Honor and Distinction in the defense of His Men, His Country, and of His beloved Corps. His exemplary service to his Country and Corps earned him the following awards:
